Alternative fuels for road freight transport: research paper finds wide differences in the strength of policy support by country, mode and fuel

EUtrucks

A new paper analyses the trends and policies supporting alternative fuels for road freight transport in Europe. The authors conclude that stronger action is needed to timely decarbonize road freight transport in Europe.

The study was based on the assessment of the national implementation reports notified by the 27 Member States and the United Kingdom to the European Commission in the context of Directive 2014/94/EU on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure.

Wide differences in the strength of policy support by country, mode and fuel were found. The authors highlight the need for improvements in data reporting by countries, including the communication of future vehicle estimates and infrastructure targets.

The paper was published in the Frontiers in Energy Research journal and is freely available here: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fenrg.2022.897916/full
